Overview

Metis 6 is comprised of Metis Server and Metis Architecture. Troux’s Metis Server provides information management capabilities and interactive delivery, through sophisticated information collection and storage technology. Metis Server implements an abstract entity-relation model. This enables automated collection, classification, and visualization of a broad array of enterprise architecture elements including technologies and processes, as well as people.

IBM Cognos ReportNet, the reporting engine, is used by IT and enterprise architects for the collection, management, sharing, and analysis of enterprise environment data.

Metis Architect provides enterprise architecture professionals with a range of modeling options. This includes providing business-owners with read-only visual models to empower decision-making; and supporting advanced designers and developers who want to create, adapt, or extend objects, relationships, and search criteria within a metamodel template.

Metis Server

  • Metis Enterprise Repository. Provides the breadth of storage types, storage depth, and relationship information that can purpose the data effectively to create a decision-support system that is robust enough to meet the needs of IT as well as the business.
  • Metis Enterprise Architecture Framework. Allows users to model complex and dynamic environments to align with the organizational strategy of the business out-of-the-box.
  • Metis Information Portal. Provides secure, role-based information delivery of data based on the user’s domain and preferences.
  • Metis Reporting. Through integration with IBM Cognos ReportNet, Metis Reporting delivers information in text, tabular, column, and graphical formats. Additionally, reports can be viewed as HTML or PDFs and exported to standard reporting formats including Excel and column separated values.
  • Metis Policy Manager. Facilitates the capture, creation, and management of policies to cover the entire policy lifecycle: committees and collaboration; implementation, testing, and auditing; reporting, change management, and end-of-life transition management.
  • Metis Workflow Engine. Enables the definition, implementation, and improvement of processes performed in the Metis Enterprise Repository. Business analysts use an intuitive and flexible interface to define processes such as business functions or activities, business rules, resources, and performance measurements.

Metis Architect

  • Model Browser. Provides end-users with ability to view, but not update, models published on the Internet or local area network. This class of user typically uses visual models to assess and query complex enterprise information as part of analysis, planning, and decision-making.
  • Model Annotator. Enterprise architecture team members, reviewers, and those who approve models can offer comments and feedback in ‘sticky note’ style. Annotator also supports threaded conversations among reviewers. And annotated models provide an easily accessed audit of proposed model changes and decisions.
  • Model Editor. Creates visual models from enterprise data and can accommodate change on a detailed, operational level to assure information relevancy. It also allows users to publish models to a Web server—either in full, dynamic mode for use with Model Browser or Model Annotator, or as HTML pages for easy access from standard Web browsers.
  • Model Designer. Targets the more advanced modelers responsible for visual display and dynamic behavior of models, objects, and relationships.
  • Model Developer. Offers a powerful development tool for advanced developers who need to create, adapt, or extend objects, relationships, and search criteria within a metamodel template.
  • Data Import Facility. Allows users to visually model how external data should be imported into Metis.

Architecture

The Cognos engine is tightly integrated with Metis Server, providing an embedded platform to execute, manage, and view both pre-defined reports and custom reports. The Datamart Generator feature of Metis Server enables the generation of customizable datamarts optimized for customer usage with Report Studio and Query Studio. Customers can, in turn, use the integrated components to provide additional customized data analytics. The datamarts are relational databases that can be either normalized or dimensionally aware. 

Metis Server, including the Cognos integration, runs on Microsoft Windows Server and Sun Solaris systems. Both the native data repository maintained by Metis Server and the customized datamarts can run on top of either a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle database management system.
