Cognos is the sole independent performance management vendor selected in worldwide review of corporate sustainability best
practices

OTTAWA, ON and BURLINGTON, MA, October 30, 2007 - Cognos (NASDAQ: COGN) (TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, announced that it was selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the eighth consecutive year. Cognos is the only independent performance management vendor named to this year's list.

DJSI World describes corporate sustainability as a “business approach to create long term shareholder value by embracing opportunities and managing risks deriving from economic, environmental and social developments.”

The 2006/2007 Index comprises more than 250 companies representing the top 10 percent of the leading sustainability companies in 57 industry groups across 18 countries. These companies are selected from the largest 2,500 companies by market cap in the Dow Jones Global Indexes.

The annual review of the DJSI family is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change, supply chain standards and labor practices.

According to the report, “Cognos stands out for its strong governance structure, leading the sector in areas such as corporate governance, codes of conduct and compliance. Through the punctual development of new products and platforms, followed by regular updates, Cognos shows a high level of innovation and short time to market. A well developed customer relationship management system allows the company to timely consider client needs and accordingly enhance the products and service line-up.”

“Cognos embraces the highest standards of excellence in company transparency and accountability. These standards are critical to our performance management market leadership and success,” said Tom Manley, Cognos senior vice president, finance and administration and chief financial officer. “We are pleased to be recognized an eighth time for our commitment to corporate sustainability and good governance and we congratulate those Cognos customers who have also been named to the Index for their dedication to these same principles.”
