Cognos Customers Worldwide Transform
Enterprise Performance

Cognos Performance Management System helps customers integrate financial and operational business processes to progress performance management initiatives across the enterprise

LAS VEGAS - COGNOS FORUM, June 27, 2006— Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, announced today that leading organizations worldwide are improving visibility and control of enterprise performance with the Cognos Performance Management System.

The Cognos Performance Management System combines technology, best practices, analytical applications and solutions, and a broad network of partners into a single performance management solution for customers. 86 of Fortune 100 organizations use the capabilities of this system to improve performance management decision-making.

Cognos customers Ceridian, Princess Cruises, Constar International, Mueller, Inc and Cognos Partner e2e Analytix are representative organizations that are streamlining key financial and operational processes and embracing a best-practices ecosystem to extend their technology investment. The combination results in a vision that maximizes visibility, quickens response, pulls consistent data from financial and operational systems, and enables quick adjustments for improved business performance.

The research firm Gartner recommends an “enterprise-wide approach” to performance management, advocating that “CFOs must raise their sights beyond the near-term needs of the finance organization when considering CPM and work with other senior executives (such as CMOs and COOs) to ensure their operational metrics and domain performance management initiatives form part of the CPM road map.”*

Ceridian (www.myceridian.com), is a leader in human resources outsourcing management solutions which serve over 110,000 customers and their 25 million employees worldwide. Ceridian Human Resources Solutions implemented Cognos Planning in 1999 as its performance management foundation to pull data from Oracle Financials and connect this operational data with financial implications.

“We are driving to make enterprise performance management a day-to-day reality at Ceridian,” said Mike Varecka, director of Finance for Ceridian. “Standardizing on a single platform for forecasting operational activities and initiatives, reporting financial results to management and reporting related operational metrics leads to a firm integration of business processes backed by consistent information. This, in turn, leads to better decisions which ultimately improve shareholder value.”

Princess Cruises is one the world’s most recognizable premier cruise lines, carrying more than a million passengers each year. Since its initial implementation in 2003, the company has grown its use of Cognos enterprise planning and business intelligence across its business to deliver greater visibility and effectively manage planning processes for cruise operations, including food-and-beverage, guest rooms, retail boutiques, casinos and art auctions, human resources and finance.

“With Cognos, we have one centralized tool that provides immediate visibility to both finance and operations,” said Greg Bozigian, director of financial planning and analysis, Princess Cruises. “ Not only is aggregating information a much easier process, but we can deliver information to senior management in a more timely manner, effectively enabling them to make the decisions that guide our company. This deeper visibility allows for more qualitative discussions between management and the operations managers about forecasts, risks, and opportunities, which leads to a more thorough review and a more accurate plan. For a public company, this is invaluable.”

The Cognos Performance Management System extends beyond functional technology capabilities that link, automate and transform business processes. Best-Practices embodied by the Cognos Innovation Center for Performance Management, Performance Blueprints and Cognos thought leader advisors provide customers with practical, ready-made vision to progress initiatives:

Constar International is a leading global producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic containers for food, carbonated beverages, sports drinks, juice, new age beverages, flavored alcohol and bottled water with worldwide plants. Cognos Planning gives this $975 million company a continuous, integrated, streamlined planning process for sales forecasting, production planning and financial operating planning.

“The best-practices embodied by Cognos Performance Blueprints and provided through the Cognos Innovation Center are a gift to Cognos customers. They let customers quickly unlock the power within Cognos’ software by taking the standard business problems organizations are creating models for and giving them a head start, said Roberta Kaplan, Director of Business Intelligence, Constar. “Access to proven industry experts provided through the Innovation Center is integral to both model development and implementing cross-functional planning processes.”

Mueller Inc is a leading manufacturer of pre-engineered metal building and residential metal roofing products. The company began its performance management journey with Cognos Planning, followed a Balanced Scorecard approach and added Cognos’ scorecarding and performance applications to standardize communication of business results and manage business performance processes.

“Cognos recognizes that enabling performance management for customers requires much more than functional software capabilities,” said Mark Lack, Manager, Planning and Financial Analysis, Mueller Inc. “Cognos provides a complete approach to performance management which includes taking steps to improve the customer experience and time to success with proven best-practices such as those found in the Performance Blueprints. It also includes working with customers to establish and manage key business processes and providing the means to distribute and automate the information gleaned to improve overall visibility and decision-making.”

Cognos partner e2e Analytix helped implement Cognos planning and business intelligence solutions at Sony Electronics e-solutions division across its sales, product management and inventory teams.

Cognos performance management solutions provide the level of visibility and control necessary for companies to forecast, measure and analyze their business to a minute level of detail,” said Jim Glassman, Vice President, e2e Analytix. “When you combine this technology with the brain trust and best-practice solutions provided by the Cognos Innovation Center, customers are surrounded with the vision, the technology and the proven processes to jumpstart world-class performance management initiatives.”

“The Cognos Performance Management System provides customers with the software tools, thought leadership advice and best-practice disciplines to create a sustainable vision for process improvement across the enterprise,” said Renee Lorton, senior vice-president and general manager, Cognos Performance Applications. “With Cognos and its extensive partner ecosystem, customers are loweringrisk, reducing implementation times and increasing overall success rates as they integrate financial and operational business processes.”
