– U.S. Coast Guard Wins for Technology Leadership Category; 4 other Cognos customers are finalists –

San Francisco - Ventana Research CONNECTIONS 2006 -- June 14, 2006— Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, announced today that the U.S. Coast Guard has been awarded a Ventana Research Performance Management Leadership Award for Technology Leadership. Award winners and finalists were recognized this week at Connections 2006, the Ventana Research Analyst Summit, in San Francisco.

The Ventana Research Performance Management Leadership Awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated leadership in orchestrating people, process, information and technology for optimum business impact.  The Technology Leadership award recognizes the technology innovators who have creatively and holistically deployed technology that successfully links people and process across systems to impact the bottom line.

The U.S. Coast Guard implemented Cognos reporting, analysis and scorecarding capabilities in 2003 as part of a Coast Guard wide system for measuring, monitoring and managing overall readiness. The system integrated business intelligence, survey, search, portal, data warehouse and map technologies to create a single interface that provides personalized, customizable content for users to quickly locate and manipulate their important readiness data.

“We are extremely pleased to be recognized with this award for Technology Leadership,” said Commander Jan Stevens, Program Manager for the Coast Guard’s Business Intelligence initiative. “Our targeted efforts allow us to manage data as an enterprise asset while supporting Coast Guard mission execution. Whether it is managing the health and training of our military workforce or tracking the operating status of shipboard equipment, we can now connect our readiness data to decisions and actions that drive tangible results for the entire organization.”

Cognos customers were finalists across all award categories. In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, the following customers were recognized with honorable mentions in their respective categories:

  • Canadian Air Transport Authority (CATSA) for Performance Management Overall Leadership. With Cognos, CATSA has streamlined operational processes and costs for a savings of approximately $10 million (CDN) on an annual basis.
